Franklin Graham congratulates President-elect Trump

On November 6, Pastor Franklin Graham, president and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA), congratulated President-elect Donald J. Trump on his election victory in a heartfelt Facebook post.

He wrote, “I pray that you look to God every day for His guidance and wisdom.”

The following day, November 7, 2024, held dual significance for Franklin Graham as it marked his father Billy Graham’s birthday. Franklin shared a photo of Donald Trump with his late father, accompanied by a reflective message:

“Donald J. Trump congratulating my father Billy Graham on his 95th birthday! My father’s earthly birthday is November 7. He would have been 106 today! His greatest passion was proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ—his faith became sight in 2018 when he went home to heaven.

‘Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him’ (1 Corinthians 2:9).”

Franklin Graham has been vocal about his perspective on this year’s election, describing it as a spiritual battle of paramount importance. He called it “the most important election in the history of our nation,” warning that “America is under attack by an immoral, anti-God agenda that would like to change our country foundationally forever. The choice is clear, and you are responsible for how you vote.”

Throughout the election season, Graham expressed consistent support for Trump. During a rally in Concord, North Carolina, on October 21, he praised Trump’s energy and dedication to his campaign, but cautioned against complacency. “Rallies and positive polling data cannot win this election; it requires God,” he asserted.

He further elaborated on the spiritual challenges surrounding Trump, stating, “There’s a spiritual element at work here. Dark forces are working against this man. They’ve tried to imprison him, and there have been two assassination attempts. He faces daily attacks in the media, and the only hope for Donald J. Trump and our nation is God.”

Graham shared that he had personally encouraged Trump to seek God’s guidance each morning, adding, “If he does so, God will hear and answer his prayers.” He supported his encouragement by quoting Psalm 20:7: “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.”

During the rally, Graham led attendees in communal prayer, urging them to pray for Trump’s wisdom, protection, and guidance. He also prayed for the nation, asking God to bless it once more. In his prayer, Graham humbly acknowledged the nation’s sins, sought forgiveness, and asked, “Father, we pray for our country, and if it is Your will, may President Trump win this election. We pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

Earlier in the year, during the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee in July, Trump had publicly expressed admiration for Franklin Graham. Recalling childhood memories, Trump shared how his late father, Fred Trump, had taken him to a Billy Graham Crusade.

“Franklin Graham is an outstanding man,” Trump remarked. “A great gentleman. I have a lot of respect for him.”

Franklin Graham’s unwavering support for Trump and his emphasis on faith-driven leadership highlight his belief in the need for divine guidance in navigating the nation’s challenges. His calls for prayer and spiritual reflection resonated deeply with his followers, emphasizing the importance of faith in public life.
