Maybe you had never done it before. And over time, just because of this journey through the Bible, we’re doing Old Testament and New Testament. We’ve out over two hundred and thirty thousand downloads of the podcast, and so I want to thank you guys for going along on the journey. We do have a couple sponsors.
I’ll mention during the podcast if you if you want to support them, they’re all good. It’s my Pillow Pure Talk in z Stack Health, betting pillows and cutting your cellphone bill in half. In Mark chapter fifteen we’re going to go. We’re at the crucifixion now, and it’s a pretty long chapter.
So if you hang with me, we’ll we’ll get through all of it. And I try to do an entire chapter every time. Sometimes they’re short chapters, sometimes they’re long chapters. That way we can get the continuity of the time together.
But I do want to like I do every morning. I want to go over that every morning, like Jeremiah in Lamitations three twenty two wrote, even though he was watching Jerusalem getting trounced on and getting conquered, he said, yet I call this to mind in verse twenty one, and therefore I have hope. Because of the loving devotion of the Lord. We are not consumed, for his mercies never fail.
They’re new every morning. Great is your faithfulness, Psalm one thirty six one Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever. So we have a God whose long suffering, His mercies are new every day.
We cond just reset, and then when we go into prayer and then into the word. The Bible, which we’re going to read again tonight, was written by forty authors over fifteen hundred years on three continents. One of the writers who wrote Hebrews wrote in Hebrews four twelve that the Word of God is living and it’s active, because God the Holy Spirit had inspired him. He wrote, the Word of God is living, an active sharper than any double edged sword.
It pierces even to dividing soul and spirit joints tomorrow, and it judges the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Paul to Timothy before it was martyred two Timothy three fifteen through seventeen said to Timothy, from infancy, you have known the holy scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All scripture is God breed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training and righteousness, so that the Man of God may be complete, fully equipped for every good work. So we are blessed.
Mercies are new. Thank you, Lord, We praise you. We get into the Word. It’s living and active.
It’s a discerner of the thoughts and intentions of our heart. And we submit to the Word as that we are instructed, we are convicted, we are corrected, and we are trained up in righteousness. Paul in Ephesian six then says, understand this verse twelve thirteen. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but it’s against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this world’s darkness, and against the spiritual forces of evil and the heavenly realms.
Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so when the day of evil comes, you will be able to stand your ground and have done and having done everything to stand. Paul told the Corinthians and Second Corinthians ten three through five. For though we live in the flesh, we do not wage war according to the flesh. The weapons of our warfare are not the weapons of the flesh.
Instead, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every presumption set up against the knowledge of God. And we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ cautions one thirteen. He rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of his beloved son.
We are in spiritual warfare. And if you’re someone says I don’t like to be in well warfare, I’m a kind of a nicer person. I like to just stay in the background well, guess what you’re in the battle Daniel. When he was seeking guidance from the Lord, he prayed in.
Three weeks later, an angel messenger got to him and said, Daniel, from the time you your prayers went up to the Lord, I was dispatched. But I’ve been fighting with the head demon over Persia. I’ve been battling and then Michael came and took over the battle and I was able to get you. Just so you know God’s hearing you.
Just took me a while to get here. Well. John then says to the believers, all right, stay set apart. Do not love the world or anything in the world, because if anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
For all that is in the world, the desires of the flesh, the desires of the eyes, and the pride of life is not from the Father, but from the world. James four four. Or to those who want to kind of walk the fence, which is impossible. You’re either all in or all out.
You’re either a child of God or a child of the devil. James four four says, you adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility? Toward God. Therefore, whoever chooses to be a friend of the world renders himself an enemy of God. Well, then we don’t want to be enemies with God.
And so when we need to do what Paul says in two Corinthian six fourteen, do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, and then he Paul explains. Paul explains several times why he asked rhetorical questions pretty much for what partnership can righteousness have with wickedness? What fellowship does light have? What darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and balal or Satan? Or what does a believer have in common with the non believer? Paul and one Corinthians five nine through eleven said, I wrote you and my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people. I was not including the sexually moral of this world, or the greedy, or the swillers or i dollaters. In that case you would have to leave the world.
No, I’m writing you not to associate with anyone who claims to be a Christian, a brother, a christ follower, but who is sexually a moral or greedy, an idolatry or verbal abuse, or a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man, do not even eat. So as we go to mark the crucifixion account, we just praise you Lord, that you are long suffering, that your mercies anew every day, that you’ve given us your Holy Spirit, that we have we have God in us holy Spirit. We thank you that you are walking with us.
Keep us on the straight path. Do not let us turn to the right or the left. Help us to submit to your word. And may we be the light of the world.
May we be the salt of the world. May we be the collective city on a hill. And it’s all for your glory and your sake, Jesus Christ. Amen.

So they use some of their proceeds to help veteran causes not planted parenthood and gender affirming care centers. All right, here we go mark chapter fifteen. This is gonna be a little bit long, but let’s uh. This is where we ended fourteen with Peter denying Jesus, falling to his knees and weeping.
Now we’re in fifteen. I’m gonna use inn IV. Very early in the morning, the chief Priest, with the elders, the teachers of the law, and the whole sanhedron made their plans. So they bound Jesus, led him away, and handed him over to Pilot.
Are you the king of the Jews, asked Pilot. You have said so, Jesus replied. The Chief Priest accused him of many things. So again Pilot asked him, aren’t you going to answer? See how many things are accusing you of? But Jesus still made no reply, and Pilot was amazed.
Now was accustomed at the festival to release a prisoner whom the people requested. A man called Barrabbas was in prison with the insurrectionists who had committed murder in the uprising, and the crowd came up and asked Pilot to do for them what he usually did. Do you want me to release to you? The King of the Jews, asked Polot, knowing was out of self interest that the Chief Priest had handed Jesus over to him. But the chief Priest stirred up the crowd to have Pilot release Barabbas instead.
Well, then, what shall I do with the one they call the king of the Jews? Crucify him? Remember when Jesus wrote in the Triumphal Entry, before the Last Supper, the people were saying, Hosanna, Hosanna, putting their coats before the coal, the donkey, the colt river, putting branches down, palm branches, saying, praise save us God, thank you who right the messiahs here fulfilling prophecies. And here there are a few days later, crucify him. They shouted, Why what crime has he committed? Asked Pilots, But they shouted all the louder, crucify him. One need to satisfy the crowd, Pilot released Brabas to them.
He handed Jesus. He had Jesus flogged, and he handed him over to be crucified. Remember at this point Jesus is in total control. This was the sovereign plan of God from before.
In the beginning, Jesus would go to a cross, and on the cross would shed his blood. And then when he had conquered sin and death, he said to tell Usty the veil separating the Holy holies from the from the outer area of the temple, the holy the Holy area and the Holy holies, there was a veil. Only the priests could go by behind it, behind it once a year. But the veil was torn, this big, really thick veil, torn from top to bottom when Jesus, after he had conquered death only nine hours in, gave up his gave up his spirit.
So here’s how it gets. This is how it went down. So the soldiers led Jesus away to the place into the palace called the Praetorium, and called together the whole company of soldiers. Now remember he’s been flogged, metal straps with glass and metal in it, whipped with the body, tore open, successive bleeding bruised up.
They put a purple robe on him, and they twisted together a crown of thorns, and then they set it on him. They stuck these thorns in his head, and they began to call out to him, Hail, King of the Jews. And again and again they struck him on the head with the staff, and they spit on him, falling on their knees. He paid, falling on their knees.
They paid homage to him, and when they had mocked him, they took off the purple robe, put him in his own clothes, and led him off to crucify him. A certain man from Syreene, Simon, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was passing by on his way in from the country, and they forced him to carry the cross. They brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha, which means the place of the school. Then they offered him wine mixed with myrr but he did not take it.
Then they crucified him, dividing up his clothes. They cast lots to see what each would get. So it was nine in the morning when they crucified him, so it started at six. He gets crucified at nine.
The written notice of the charge against him read the king and the Jews, and they crucified two rebels with him, one on his right, one on his left, and those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking her head, saying, oh, so you’re going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, Come down from the cross and save yourself. In the same way, the chief priests and the teachers of the law mocked him amongst themselves. He saved others, but he can’t save himself. Let this Messiah, the King of Israel, come down now from the cross that we may see and believe those crucified him also heaped insults on him.
Now that think about that, two murderous thugs on each side of him were mocking, mocking Jesus while they were also crucified. So at noon, three hours into the crucifixion, the actual physical part of the of the judgment, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon. At three in the afternoon, Jesus cried out in a loud voice, eloi oil lama suboctany, which means, my God, my God, why have you forsaken me. When some of those standing near heard the they said, listen, he’s calling Elijah.
Someone ran filled a sponge with wine vinegar and put it on his staff and offered it to Jesus to drink. Now leave him alone, Let’s see if Elijah comes to take him down. With the loud cry, Jesus breathed his last and the curtain was torn in two from the top to bottom. So Jesus was only physically on the cross for six hours.
Sometimes criminals would go days, unless the Romans would go and bust their legs to have them suffocate. So six hours for a healthy guy was too fast normally. But Jesus had accomplished why he went to the cross, and he’d already said to tell us why the veil was torn. Access to God the Father was open, and in Christ do his blood on the cross.
We as believers can enter into the Holy of Holies and say Alba Father. So if the loud cried, Jesus breed. This last kurt was torn. Colonel temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
When the centurion who stood in front of Jesus, who had stood in front of Jesus, saw how he died, he said, surely this man was the son of God. Some women were watching from a distance. Among them where Mary Magdalene married, the mother of James the Younger, and of Joseph in solom in Galilee. These women had followed him and cared for his needs.
Many other women who had come up with him Jerusalem Rousso there it was preparation day, that was the day before the Sabbath. So as the evening approached, Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the council, who was himself waiting for the Kingdom of God, went boldly to Pilot and asked for Jesus’s body. Pylo was surprised to hear that he was already dead. Summoning the centurion, he asked if Jesus had already died.
When he learned from the centurion that it was, so, he gave the body to Joseph. So Joseph bought some linen cloth, took down the body, wrapped it in linen, and placed it in a tomb cut out of the rock. Then he rolled a stone against the entrance of the tomb Mary Magdalene to marry the mother. Joseph saw where he was laid.
So what do we get out of this, Well, we’ve been going through markt a pretty quick click, right, he gets right to the point. But now it’s happened. So the fulfillment and the completion of the conquering of sin has taken place. What appeared to be Jesus being wrongly tried and then murdered was actually the plan of God.
And yes, the night before, his body was freaking out, sweating blood, and he said, Father, if it’s if it’s possible, let this cup passes. He knew the pain is by, he knew what was coming, physical torture and torment, and feeling this, this momentary wrath of God as he took the sins of those who would believe on himself. And so he’s got blood sweating, and he’s just shaking, and he’s just it’s just a horrendous period of time. But at no point did Jesus lack faith in his Father as God the Son.
But see, Jesus came to live the perfect life and to be an example of what a humble Christian life looks like in steadfastness and conviction, yet in humility and love, in making much of God to the point that we hate the world. So Jesus lived the life, and we have the perfect example of what a Christian walk looks like. But as God the Son, he was tempted in all ways, yet he did not and could not sin. So those in darkness, the majority of the world is in darkness because they like their evil deeds.
Through this process, they’re mocking they who they thought was the Messiah. The guards are spitting on him, jamming thorns and to his head, and even the criminals that are crucified on each side of him were mocking him. But when we get farther into the gospels, one of the two that’s mocking him is going to be born again on a cross as profound. So Jesus didn’t call down the legions of angels.
He stayed through the process. He knew that the pain was coming on the cross. Three hours in the wrath of God comes darkness in the world. Three hours later it is finished.
Death is conquered, Satan is condemned for eternity, the demons, everything is done to tell us that it is finished. Then he, according to the scriptures, was taken down and was buried. Three days later. According to the scriptures, he raises himself up from the dead.
He will appear to five hundred over five hundred believers at one time in his resurrected body. He will ascend to heaven with the angels saying why are you staring at him? Where he as he goes up, he will come back again. We’ll go through Pentecost. The great commission has already been given.
Then we go through the Book of Acts, where the Holy Spirit is guiding the apostles and the disciples in their path toward establishing what they call the Church of the Way. They were first called Christians in Antioch, and here we are twenty twenty five, continuing the building, the adding to the brighter Christ as our groom will come again. Like Titus two thirteen says, we wait for the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. It’s it’s think about think about the reality that when Jesus said it is finished, the hundreds of millions of people, the most likely or born again.
They their justification was imputed because in the Old Testament their their faith was credit to them as righteousness. And then upon the cross, when the blood wish shed, than those who believed and who would believe were covered, and then they were in the family of God. And nothing can take us away from the love of God. It’s a profound thing and grace.
This is why grace is such a profound idea justification a judicial term where it’s like getting ruled by the judge. It’s just as though you didn’t do it. So in Christ, you’re not guilty because it’s been covered, and it’s just as though you didn’t commit the sin. But then the Holy Spirit in us keeps us growing.
We keep confessing our sins. We stay as the underrowers, as the do lay of Christ, the slaves of Christ, and we keep making much of Him running our race. And then, like Paul said before he got Martyr Timothy, I’ve done it. I fought the good fight.
Because Paul spoke a lot about sports and boxing and all that and racing, I finished the race. I finished the course. There’s a crown lay laid up for me, but also for those who believe. And we believe.
So I encourage you to keep running your race. Strong that every morning that you thank the Lord that his mercies are new, you spend time in prayer, giving God his due worship, petition God, if there’s things on your heart, and then wait for God to give you the direction. The thing about prayer is we want to be and we want God’s will to be done, so we pray in a way as we spend time with God. We will pray in accordance with God’s will because God’s nature is good.
And then we spend time in the Word, we spend time with believers, and we go to a healthy church. And then, just like I said in the last podcast, there’ll be times or you may be in the middle of a grocery store sharing the Gospel for fifteen twenty minutes, or in front of a soap aisle and sprouts where a guy was trying to find a type of soap and I talked to him about biblical marriage for about thirty minutes in the middle of the grocery store, or talking to kids at a coffee house drive through coffee place for fifteen twenty minutes about living with hope in truth. Not because I’m especially bold, it’s because if you are prepared to give an answer for the hope that lies within you, if you can tell someone the Gospel and tell him your testimony, you’ve done your job. When it comes to let it planning the seed or watering the seed.
If the Lord save someone that you directly know, or you have an opportunity to help disciple that person, then now you will be a part of discipling them, making disciples. But God is the one that saves people. We are the ambassadors, so we come we present the truth, just like when the disciples would go into cities, or the apostles would go into cities and acts, and if the people would welcome them, they would stay and share the gospel, and some would be born again. If the city would say reject them, they would shake the dust off their cloak or their sandals, and they would say, we’re out of here.
But by Jesus God to son dying for those who would believe, conquering sin and death, the veil torn. Everything changed. We are so blessed to be born, especially in the United States of America, and to a country under a constitutional republic government structure where we can worship freely mostly still have mostly free speech rights, and we don’t have to generally worry about communist coming to our door and knocking it down because we were reading the Bible. So I encourage you as if you’re in America, make much of the liberties we have, vote, make sure our rights stay in place, and make sure that our future generations can speak freely, can worship freely, can share the Gospel without the fear of imprisonment.
We at least we owe them that. But in the end, just like with Job, just like with Joseph, just like with Daniel, it’s all God’s will. So even though we try, we maybe one day worshiping and praising from a prison cell because of the gospel. But Paul said, I learned to be content with much with little, and it’s all for God’s glory because in the end, just like when Stephen was being stoned and he looked up and said he could see Heaven open up, he said, don’t hold these got people guilty from stoning me.
They don’t They don’t know what they’re doing. He could say that. It’s like Paul, I believe with Stone and Listra and he said, I knew a guy was died and was taken up to the third Heaven came back. Because Paul, after that I believe said, you know, to die is to gain better.
To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, that’s kind of what I’m desiring. So if we have this opportunity in twenty twenty five as Christians in the United States or wherever you’re living, if you’re in a free country, when you have if you struggle to have something to pray about, praise the Lord that you live in a country where you can praise the Lord freely.
